The Choice of the Phoenix ~ About this show

Phoenix Rising • Phoenix Favorites • San Diego Fire

Last year’s theme was Flame, and this year’s is Phoenix fittingly enough, and the sequence is more than a poetic choice, since my life and creative journey over the past year has led me through the flame to a whole new level of capacity and creative vision.  Last year at this time I was in the process of designing the new sculpture, FlameII: Fire Blossoms,  which design drawing and concept I posted at that time (click HERE).  It was finished later this year, and subsequently exhibited at Nassau County Museum in Long Island, as well as being featured at Shidoni Gallery in the Santa Fe region.  It was a big success

This unique new sculpture was hailed as a “break through piece” in my career.  Additionally, at the time of last year’s show, I invited people to “ignite the flame” and many did, sending  exciting and stimulating new commission opportunities for me to work on.

This past year has been a great time for generating a whole new style and spectrum of design concepts, many of which I am happy to share with you here, in the area of this show  called Phoenix RisingSome are still in the design phase, most are in process., and some have been completed or are very close.  These new designs are prototypes, and the first in their editions.  So the orders are welcome on these or variations thereof.  I also wish to encourage people to continue to come to me with their sites, unique ideas, and requests for special creations.  Each project seems to ignite new ideas, and fuel the creative process of the others.  As a friend remarked recently (without knowing about this show)- “You know lately, you are lit, really lit!”

But most coincidentally and significantly, I am ending this year with the installation and dedication of a sculpture to commemorate a family who survived and rebuilt after the San Diego fire destroyed their home and property.

.

The kinetic element of that sculpture is featured here as a design in and of itself entitled Phoenix I.  (Photo below).  As a phoenix has the power to heal through its tears, this sculpture seeks to heal through embracing the pain of the past, and emerging anew.  It is entitled Remerge

In the area of this show entitled Phoenix Favorites  I show classic and close-out edition  pieces for sale at special prices which must soon increase.  As many of you know, materials costs have gone way up, and while I have been able to offset some of this increase through more efficient handling of my business, I must now bow to the inevitable, and as of the beginning of next year, adjust my prices accordingly.   It is best to let me know as early as possible if you are interested in a specific piece, however, so I can try to honor any special prices offered.

Thank you for visiting this show and for being interested in my career.  It has been a wonderful year to meet and collaborate with a whole range of people from clients and friends to associates and chance acquaintances.  Your support and encouragement has allowed me to come this far.   I am glad to share the symbol of the phoenix.. It is a creature which rises above and beyond, transformed by the potentially destructive power of flame into  beauty. Its evolution signals new potential, focus, magic, and joy.  It heralds positive change, both as breathtaking transformation, and self-discovery as delightful and magical as luminescence~ as  a rainbow.  May this be a far reaching archetype, a  time of the phoenix for us all.~
