A Ballet of Form & Function:

To create kinetic sculpture is to carve into the fourth dimension.  Fluid dynamics is a precise, demanding, and elemental art.  More than in almost any other field, form and function become closely interchangeable.   Because of the purist nature of these forms, beauty is born from the "trial by fire" that nature provides.

The elegantly clean elements of the Spirale Jazzola are sculpted by motion into dance, and in Seven Circular Motions: Shooting Stars, the pure beauty of dance is sculpted into space - the simplest of forms being transformed into an alphabet for the poetic intricacies of a perfectly random chaotic pendulum.

In Music of the Spheres, a whole new level of fluid dynamics is explored.  The design was born of a meditation on the principles of periodic motion (as found in sine waves, orbits of planets, or electrons).  The result is the silky and sophisticated, a pure dream of momentum, and defies description in any form but the present.

MUSIC OF THE SPHERES

Two elements glide by at different diagonals and directions, alternatingly around, within and above each other.  The wind-horns are so designed as to be naturally self-breaking at higher speeds. This sculpture represents an advanced dimension of kinetics, the grace and beauty of its momentum is barely hinted at in the two dimensional realm of these  photographs.  Completely fabricated from stainless, the clean, softly shimmering material is perfect for expressing this visual haiku about the archetype of periodicity.  Long meditations on the nature of sine waves, on the fundamental nature of orbits, have led to this design.  Like sine waves, which can be added to create an infinite number of variations, each moment creates a whole new sculpture.  It is also evocative of the essence of orbits, as clean and as simple as the mathematics involved.  Yet there is is a silky suaveness suggestive of great masses in motion that elicits a very visceral excitement and stimulates a multi-faceted aesthetic response - "I hear music when I watch it" - is a common remark, hence the name, "Music of the Spheres".

SEVEN CIRCULAR MOTIONS: SILVER STARS

We came up with this design before the Chaos theory became public knowledge, but now use it to explain why he motion is so unpredictable and alive.  Three interdependent and multi variously directed axes interweave continuously in a kaleidoscope of ever changing form.   The movement is delightfully textured and complex.  Referencing an expansivity of space, it poetically hints at the geometry of the fourth dimension.  Good for the brain as well as the spirit.

A dramatic and jazzy version of the Spirale with upwardly flaring and crossed upper arms.  The top element with a tiered crown shape moves in one direction while the lower element spirals in the other, appearing to coil skyward as it goes.
