"The whole point is that we can transform material into energy - in
fact, we don't think of them as two different things."
- Takis explaining a kinetic artist's perspective to Giacometti
COPPER, BRASS, BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD
Copper runs in veins and arteries throughout the
earth's crust. along with gold and silver, these precious metals are
the earth's blood, shivering within the earth's electric field and flowing
over thousands of years from her heart. They are compatible with the
elements because they come from the elemental core. Copper, brass,
bronze, silver and gold, have an almost human feel to the touch, easily
warming to the body temperature, and yielding to the direction of our
muscles. properly prepared, they flex and have resilience.
Combined with stainless, there is resilience, but also strength. For
those qualities, I have chosen to work with these metals, and most of my
sculptures have incorporated them. |

WIND TOWER I (below)
This monolithic structure is stratified with geological textures and
color echoing the mountains and hills. A single bronze kinetic
element scoops through an exact opening, magically appearing to pass
through stone, looking like a heart beating within the stone, or the wings
of an eagle atop a cliff. |
SPIRIT ROCK (above)
Spirit rock has a cast concrete base form with
three scooped out areas (one with a window of light all the way through)
wherein multi-axial titanium kinetic forms blushing bronze, red, purple
and blue, float, spin and twirl like delicate sea creatures.

STONE: GRANITE, MARBLE, SLATE, CAST CONCRETE
I also love to work with Stone (granite, marble,
slate, etc.) and to create the appearance of Stone, (cast concrete) which
the ancient Greeks believed were the bones of the earth (Wind
Tower, Sky Scraper and Spirit Rock).
Glass, a silicate with an almost identical melting temperature to copper,
(allowing for the fusing process of copper enameling) captures, reflects,
and refracts light, creating a magical inner kineticism which complements
the outer kinetics of the sculptures beautifully. (Diaphanous Yo
Tien, Solor System IV, Starburst). |

SKYSCRAPER
I
The dark textures of slate in geometric form handsomely frame the
single bronze kinetic element. |
SPACESHIP 'X'
A carnival of kinetics, it seems never to be still. Spaceship has
volumes of motion within motion sensitive to the slightest breeze, and
twirls in different directions at different speeds. here, the
permanent brilliance of stainless picks up the sparkle of each turn.

STAINLESS STEEL,
TITANIUM
Other materials have special qualities as
well. Stainless has a cool purity and strength which complements
many of the designs' needs and styles (Music of he spheres,
Spaceship SS, Tree of Life, Solar System VG). and
the magically alchemical metal Titanium is not only super resilient and
strong, but also surreally light-weight (Spirit Rock, Cloud
Dance, and other mobiles) with a velvety cool
greyness that can blush bronze to blue, purple, and even red with
electrolytic treatment. For the indoor works, wood, ceramics and
more plasticene materials are possible. |
